Alexander graduated as a state approved professional dancer at the John Cranko Ballet Academy in Stuttgart, at 19 years of age, from where he went on to dance as a professional dancer at the German Opera House in Düsseldorf & Düsburg.
A back injury in 1985, caused a major turning point in Alexander’s life and he took the chance to follow a deep inner calling to enquire into the mysteries of our human existence, a flame of passion that was ignited in him through reading Herman Hesse’s novels Siddhartha and Demian, around the age of eleven.
Thus, he undertook extensive travels to India and Europe to study Spanda Yoga, Kashmiri Shaivism Yoga, Eastern Psychology and Philosophy, Sahaj Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Advaita, Yoga Flow, the Fourth Way Teaching and the Yoga of Vanda Scaravelli, to further his understanding of the moving body and the workings of the mind and consciousness.
An entirely secular approach to universal teachings, yogic disciplines, inner work, mindfulness and meditation was taught to him in the traditional one-to-one practice of teacher and student, throughout more than a decade of his life.
Towards the end of his student apprenticeship, Alexander created a style of remedial yoga more suited to the western body, based on the latest research into the interconnectedness of myo-fascia.
At this stage in his professional development he realised that all the different methods he had studied and utilised in his work to date, only allowed him to facilitate people within a certain framework. Hence, to be able to facilitate people from a more holistic and integrative point of view, he needed to acquire a whole new set of skills, which he found in Upledger’s approach to Cranio-Sacral therapy.
In 2003, Alexander opened his clinic, Insight Therapy, in London where he treats and facilitates people as a Cranio-Sacral practitioner (Advanced Level II). Over the last 16 years, the majority of people he facilitates and treats, are dealing with existential issues including end stage cancer and PTSD, as well as trauma caused by medical interventions and unexpected events in life.
After over a decade of working with countless people on a one to one basis, as well as in groups, Alexander wrote his first book ‘Inside Meditation – in Search of the Unchanging Nature Within’ (Filmer-Lorch, 2012), with the aim to translate complex ancient philosophical and psychological ideas into a modern context that could be understood practiced and applied by the general public.
After the publication of his book, Alexander founded Inside Meditation, a modern school of neutral thought in London, offering a range of workshops and training programmes. In addition, he delivers CPD training for the Upledger Institute (UK and Europe) and mentors a variety of practitioners who work with the psychological and or physiological body.
Besides his work as a practitioner and facilitator, he has been designing and delivering accredited classes, meditation-therapy courses and teacher trainings for different centres and schools in the UK and Europe including AOCY, Flow Tunbridge Wells, Yotopia, Upledger UK and Denmark, The Green Room, Yoopod (online teaching), MFML (online teaching) and the CFC Centre in Germany.
Another life-changing event caused by a medical intervention in 2014, led to two near death experiences, giving rise to Alexander’s second book ‘The Inner Power of Stillness – a Practical Guide for Therapists and Practitioners’ internationally published by Handspring Publishing in 2016.
This semi-academic book provides a practical framework that supports the potential for practitioners, therapists and teachers to be the best person and professional they can be, without compromising their own overall health and wellbeing.
In response to the publication of his book, the Upledger Institute UK invited Alexander to present the ‘The Inner Power of Stillness’ at the 2016 Rhythm & Resonance Symposium in London.
In October 2016, Alexander taught ‘The Inner Power of Stillness and Presence in a Therapeutic Relationship’ to clinicians and managers at the South West London and St. George’s Mental Health Trust. The intention of this workshop was to increase both personal resilience as well as the therapeutic effectiveness of staff, in different areas of the public health sector.
The London Leadership Academy invited Alexander to present and teach ‘The Compassionate Leader and The Inner Power of Stillness’ at the 2017 Leadership Summit in London, with the aim to increase both self-containment and self-preservation capacity skills for leaders, as well as establishing a compassion-centred approach for leadership in the public health sector in times of change.
Regardless of how much Alexander loves his work as a manual practitioner, hands-on treatments only allow the practitioner to work mainly on a physical level. Increasingly, he is finding his clients are needing to address more mental-health & emotional issues. Retraining as a psychotherapist would allow him to additionally address the psychological issues of his clients, whilst evolving his professional vocation.
Hence, he is currently studying integrative transpersonal counselling and psychotherapy at CCPE in London, with the aim to be able to work in hospices and palliative care, after graduating as a psychotherapist.
Alexander’s work as a therapist, CST practitioner, mentor, author, presenter, philosophical thinker, and teacher is a synthesis of 35 years of experience in movement, yogic disciplines, meditation, applied philosophy and Eastern psychology, aiming to bring the body, mind and spirit to a natural state of meditative synthesis.
